Formats
Compatibility is a test, not a slogan.
Kingsoft lists dozens of formats. The ones that matter are DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX. Fonts, VBA, and designer masters are where files lie. This site is an independent handbook and is not affiliated with Kingsoft Office Software Corporation Limited.

The round-trip
Open the real file in WPS. Save As the same format. Open that copy in Microsoft 365 or LibreOffice. Compare page breaks, charts, and comments. If they drift, keep the original suite for that job. A blank document proving nothing is how people get surprised on Sunday night.
Formats that matter on disk
| Format | Typical WPS path | Prove this before you switch |
|---|---|---|
| DOCX | Daily Writer work | Fonts, numbered lists, comments in print |
| XLSX | Grades, invoices, shop lists | A known SUM total, charts, nested IFS |
| PPTX | Class and shop decks | Masters, video, the actual projector |
| Read and fill | OCR and batch convert are often paid | |
| DOC / XLS / PPT | Usually opens | Save As the modern format before you continue |
| CSV | Import a table | Character encoding on names |
| XLSM / DOCM | Treat as a program | VBA is not a WPS strength; keep Excel or Word |
Macros
VBA is not a WPS strength. Treat macro-enabled files as Microsoft-only unless you have proven the procedure. Disable macros from strangers either way. A .xlsm from a supplier is a program until you decide otherwise.
Fonts
A heading that used a licensed font becomes a different heading on Linux. Embed or substitute on purpose. Guide: format compatibility and Linux fonts.
Tracked changes and comments
Simple comments usually survive. Dense legal redlines can look complete until you print. If the other party’s workflow is Word’s review pane, send PDF as the snapshot and keep DOCX in Word for the redline.
What Kingsoft lists versus what you should test
Vendor pages list dozens of extensions. The ones that matter on disk are DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX. Older binary formats still appear in archives; open them, then Save As the modern format before you build a week of work on top.
A 15-minute test you can actually finish
Pick one real file per app: a letter with a header, a sheet with a known total, a deck you will present. Open, Save As, reopen in the other suite, then print or export PDF. If any of those three drift, keep the old suite for that job only. You do not have to migrate the whole office in one weekend.
