Deb or RPM from Kingsoft. Then fix the fonts.
Ubuntu and Mint users can run a real office suite without a Windows VM. The first shock is missing symbols and boxed characters, not a failed download. This site is an independent handbook and is not affiliated with Kingsoft Office Software Corporation Limited.
Packages
Use the current Deb or RPM from wps.com office/linux. Four-year-old community packages miss security fixes. This handbook does not host Deb or RPM files. If your distro’s repo lags, prefer Kingsoft’s file over a random mirror with a higher version number.
Fonts
Windows-origin DOCX files expect fonts you do not have. Install a symbol pack, then reopen. Step-by-step: Linux fonts. Boxed characters are coverage, not a corrupt installer. Substitute licensed fonts on purpose before you send a CV.
PDF and AI parity
Do not assume every Windows PDF extra exists here. Confirm in your build. If a feature is missing, that is a platform gap, not a corrupt download. WPS AI may be thinner or absent; that is not a reason to fetch a Windows EXE via Wine from a blog.
Labs and classrooms
Document the vendor URL on the class sheet. Do not drop a Deb on a shared drive next to a README that says “just dpkg -i.” Students will also download whatever Google ranked first.
