PDF toolkit
Reading a PDF is free. Owning it often is not.
Open, highlight, and fill a simple form without a card. Batch convert, OCR on scans, and some merge jobs are where the suite asks for Premium. This site is an independent handbook and is not affiliated with Kingsoft Office Software Corporation Limited.

Free versus locked
Viewing is the gift. Editing a live-text PDF sometimes works. Scans need OCR, and OCR is a classic paid wall. Confirm on wps.com before you assume a classroom of conversions is free. Batch jobs are where Premium dialogs appear even if the first file felt unlocked.
Do not outsource private PDFs
Random convert websites are a leak. Stay inside the official suite or a tool you already trust. Guides: PDF to Word and Word to PDF. A hospital scan, a passport, or a contract does not belong on a stranger’s server “because it was faster.”
Forms and signatures
Simple AcroForm fields often work. XFA and some government forms still prefer Adobe. A drawn signature is not a legal-grade certificate. Know which one your counterparty asked for.
Export discipline
Finish the working file in DOCX, then export PDF. Open the PDF on a phone. If a heading used a fancy font, that is where it dies. Embed fonts when the dialog offers it. Keep the DOCX; someone will ask for a wording change at 17:00.
Keep another PDF reader if you want one
WPS often claims PDF on install. That is a setting, not a requirement. Edge, Adobe, or a school-mandated reader can stay the default. Reset it in Windows or macOS if Writer was the only room you needed. See file associations.
Install path, not a side door
Install only from wps.com/download or Microsoft Store 9NSGM705MQWC. A template pack EXE, a photo crack, or a “Writer full” from a video description is the malware product. See download and security.
